The West side of the Bay Bridge is normally not good until later in the season, quick current in that area.

Is abbotts out near a buoy across from Potters Creek area???    Heard potters has been slow for eyes, but some big jumbo perch being caught.  Petes pointe is on the county side between cow island and mass pt.  My buddy went off Herchimer last couple nights and said theres a few spots to watch out for, I have some pics I will post later more out behind snake island where the ice shifted badly and threw the ice all over the place.  Just have your wits about you this year guys it's not like any year I have ever witnessed.   Up and down weather trends like a roller coaster make for some very unpredictable ice, I would not even think about atvs this month on the bay, youd be risking alot.  Im more honest then the average guy when it comes to the ice conditions and tomorrows mild and rain will only make things more complicated and unpredictable.  Travel light, have your safety gear and know where your going before you go out is very crucial.  Theres good ice here and there but avoid all current areas and spread out dont walk beside each other or in packs....    The emergency crews have been out practising alot lately...... and it's cause they are predicting some people running into trouble out there.......  Best of luck you need a partner let me know im more then willing to walk out with you and show you a safe route.

Looking towards mass pt..... people have been going there and its no where near ready hope noone goes through.....

The "Slot" or the Narrows has always been and will always be one of the worst areas to be on the Bay. Current is fast and the ice at times is very unstable.

We will be avoiding that area completely on Challenge day.

~~~~Quite a few decades ago, I was out of Foster's(such a sweet Guy) when he came charging out tell us to get to shore, saying Big Island Marnia just lost 3 huts do to the ice breaking up. About 1hr. later heard the crack, and watched as the ice broke apart. He may have been a pain, but he did save our lives with the warning. So I may be casting from shore, for Perch that weekend unless oit hardens up solid.
A Bitch she can be.
Little story on the bitch,
Still have not found my 1 man 3'x5' plywood hut from about 1987-8(guessing at the timeframe) the wind blew the hut went sliding with about 8-10 other huts and mine hit the open water at the narrows.
No crap, my hut started out by Herchimer and slid I was told at about 20 - 25 mph past everyone according to James Bull a local bait and tackle guy at the time.
Called the MNR and they asked if it was numbered my reply "Yes" their reply "what was in it?" my reply "empty, no gear, gas or propane, maybe a jig or two stuck to the interior wall" their reply " if we see your shack and there is not much to retrieve are your numbers painted or stuck on?" my reply "stuck on" their reply "that's good" have not heard anything since other than 3-4 hut were smashed up on shore out buy Point Anne and my white and red hut went screaming through. By the way the hut was anchored, the anchor points had melted threw it was knotted rope in the ice.
Ive saw one hut flying down big bay in all my years on the bay, buckets are another thing I see flying all the time....  dont ever chase your bucket or anything for that matter, once was told a story where one guy not sure what area on the bay, he chased it(bucket) and ran out into bad ice down he went, story ended well as someone spotted him in time and helped him out....
Open water in eastern basin of bay(long reach/Deseronto area) and sketchy ice through long reach to picton.  Big bay has the best ice by far.  Belleville area has some variance after another mild trend, big nasty pressure crack down the middle of Belleville bay open 2-4 feet in most areas it runs from Cow Island to bakelite pt.  Mass and telegraph narrows are wide open, sketchy ice on both ends of these narrows.  If anyone could add conditions it would be appreciated. Fish being caught in Big bay and Belleville area but proceed with caution and use your own judgement and common sense approach.
