Using my sonar.

Here is a video showing why it's a big asset to use a sonar when ice fishing.

Reading a flasher or ice fishing sonar

Excellent video, I’ve never used a flasher or seen one in action. I can see how it can make the day more productive. May be I’ll have one for next season. Thanks for posting.

After being on the ice with other anglers, I'm glad I went the route of a fishfinder like mine that has the built in flasher option.  This way I can use it all year round and the flasher is VERY sensitive (if I want it to be).  I went out fishing last week and forgot the sonar.  Didn't get one fish. Why?   It's not that I can't catch fish without it, but this lake you HAVE to entice them to bite.  Very rarely will they strike right off the bottom.  This way I know if there is a fish around to even entice.

I like your new Hummingbird James - great buy! I might consider the 586 after seeing it in action.

The video was excellent, Thxs for posting it up.

great video FW! I dont care for the flasher mode on mine (Humminbird 385CI) but after seeing that, maybe I'll give it another try..very good demonstration on how the electronics can be used as well as mentioning checking maps before hand and marking some spots with your GPS so you have a destination in mind.. it defininitely worked for you!
