drop shot hooks
« on: May 21, 2012, 06:00:53 PM »
VMC hooks ,are making this new drop shot hook .....we were using them on perch this past winter and have been using them in the boat for perch as well .....i think they will work well for all species when they are not active ....i ordered mine from the states but they are now becoming available here in canada as well ....not as cheap as tying your own but with the 360 degree swivel there is no line twist or line to tangle and you just tie them on .....should work well drifting in weed beds as well i hope ....

I will look for them and test them ,especially lindy rigging although I like a longer shank for lindy rigging . I do use an inline swivel already but this just gave me another idea . Thanks for the post Bald Eagle .

I used these VMC hooks this past winter with a Pan Slammer for Perch with great success.

I plan on trying them for Walleye and Small Mouth Bass.

I hope to try hooks as well .. esp. during ice fishing season ... Thanks for sharing guys

Hey BE ... Just curious, have you tried using "Bear Paw line leader connectors"? I picked up a pack recently and haven't used them yet. Just wondering how dependable they are.

example ....

"Bear Paw's leader connectors make quick no knot connections for leader or line. Make up that special rig without having to tie any knots and the Bear Paw leader connectors are removable. Bear Paw leader connectors are a Snap to Use - Fishing line is looped through sleeve, attached to lock slot. Leader is looped over connector. Line leader connector is pressed together for a secure connection without knotting".

I have used the bear paws. They work good, but occasional  twist issues as bald eagles stated. But I will try the new ones
thanks BE

N/P jack .....the wifie and i have been pretty satisfied with them so far ....we did really like them for ice fishing perch ....i think they will work good for walleye hiding in weed beds during mid day ...we have had good luck fishing for these ones in the past but line twists and tangles were a bit of a headache.....we are hoping these will work as well with less headaches ...lol...might try them for whities thru the ice with a meegs on the bottom for weight and one of these up the line a bit ....who knows ....

dokdok: The only problem I've had with bear paws when rigged as your diagram shows. A strong pulling fish can open the connection especially if the bottom weight gets caught.
A better way is to also thread the leader side through the same side as the main line. This way any pressure only tightens the connection.
