New Online Fishing Tool
« on: April 25, 2011, 01:01:46 PM »
The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources has just released a new Online Fishing tool. It's an interactive map that allows you to plan your next trip.
http://www.web2.mnr.gov.on.ca/fish_online/fishing/fishingExplorer_en.html
I only spent a quick minute on it, but you can target species of fish and select how far you're willing to drive.
Worth a peek!
regards, Mike.

Don't count on the information being accurate. Fish species in particular.
In my area it names a small Conservation Area pond (2 acres) but has the nearby (1/4 mile away) Conservation Area lake which is 600 times larger un-named. ::) Also lists this lake as having walleye which it never has had, but fails to mention it has pike which it is full of. ???
The Conservation Authority website accurately lists species present so it's obviously they didn't reference the Conservation Authority.

agreed, it should be used just as a guide, with perhaps some further checking of other sources before comitting a trip to it. If memory serves there the usual legalese disclaimers when trying to access it.

They didn't even check their "Guide to Eating Fish" publication for help in identifying species present.
I'd like to know how much $ was spent on it when they could have made it more accurate by just accessing available information.
Even a link on each area to recommend corrections & additions would be a step in the right direction.
It seems to me they spent more money promoting the site then they did on accuracy of it.
