Great post Bobby. While I can't accurately recall the statistics, studies of boating related deaths by drowning or hypothermia here in Canada (not just capsizing or swamping) showed that a significant number of male anglers or hunters tumbled out of the boat in early or late season while attempting to relieve themselves over the side or stern of their boat. A sudden wave or contact with an underwater hazard caused a loss of balance in many cases. Use of a bailing can or plastic jug along the centre line of the boat would eliminate many of the fatalities. Unlike the sea report offered, our inland lakes can be treacherous in their own ways. I would expect overloading of small craft would be very high on the list of fatality causes here. Common sense, unfortunately, can not be legislated.
