....Just how good is a CAA Card
« on: October 17, 2009, 10:37:13 AM »
My wife, Mother-in-Law and myself went on a planned shopping trip to Niagara Falls  this past Tuesday. All went well till Thursday morning;
sitting across from the Outlet Mall in a truck that would not start  ???

After a few attempts, and no go, I made the decision to phone CAA/AAA. They promised a service vehicle within an hour - a battery truck showed up within 30 minutes - battery truck??? - I told the gal on the phone I had lots of spark - just no turnover whatsoever.
This AAA driver tried a couple of things, like pounding the crap out of my gas tank to finally shooting some quick start down into the fuel line - truck started.......... ;D.............uuuhhh ran for like 5 seconds at which point he gave me his "opinion"..........I think your problem is your fuel pump - in the gas tank........

Great, now what??? I said where should I have it towed?? He handed me a brochure with an AAA - total service - garage phone number and said he would call for a tow truck and I could decide on where to have it towed (???)............then he said (after seeing the look on my face of being fleeced)  - "I'll call  them and see if they can service your truck when it arrives."

To make a long story short - the tow truck - a flat bed with a back seat cause there were 3 of us - arrived 30 minutes later and towed us in. The service people were amazing - I was allowed into the service area while they ran the diagnostics - sure enough it was the pump - $$$ quoted parts and labour and I said go for it................till they found a pin hole in my gas tank :o....................yep new gas tank -  $$$$$$$
When all was said and done - Total Labour - $300.00   Parts incl "New Tank" $790.............so if you don't have it your thinking about getting CAA and travelling into the US  - IMHO it's worth every cent and then some. We were treated very well.

ps: Service manager's father and his brother fish Simcoe all the time  :). The shuttle driver for AAA has a cottage on the French River..........- just like being at home!

Hi Horseshoe,

..............add$500.00 more to have it done in Canada ::)

CAA/AAA - discounts the labour rates if your a member - but the way we were treated was beyond expectations. The latest US maps from CAA have the AAA locations marked out - good to know if your trvellin'.

I'm ready for Quinte - tell you the truth, I can't wait....boats winterized and in the garage - so it's hard water ahead.... :)
