Teaching Our Kids...
« on: March 07, 2011, 12:49:12 PM »
It is with great sadness that I even have to bring this topic up. However due to the events over the weekend here in the London Ontario area I feel that as an outdoors-man and a human being who is compassionate and caring, It's the right thing to do.

PLEASE - If you have young children of your own, or you have a niece or nephew, or are neighbors with people who have young children take the time to warn, educate and protect them against the dangers that lurk during the spring.  As many of you probably know an 8yr old Grade 3 Student from the London area was out with two of her friends along the junction of Middleman's Creek & Gentleman's Creek near Glencoe when she slipped and fell into the frigid water... The OPP are now on Day 3 of what is a "Recovery Operation"

With the few warm days that we had the ice has become unstable.  I know that in some areas there is still plenty of thickness but it is just that one spot or two that can end in tragedy just as it has here.

So I beg of you all as members of Go Fish Ontario... Make it a part of your membership here to pass on the message of safety to everyone.  Together we can prevent senseless accidents like this and we can teach future generations how to stay safe around our frozen lakes, ponds, rivers and streams.

Well said, CanadaGator. An experience such as you refer to will never be forgotten. Parents, teachers, all persons have a responsibility.
