New Toy For Saturday
« on: February 24, 2011, 07:38:42 PM »

I just couldn't leave CTC with out  getting something new for Saturday. Its a telescopic ice  scoop/skimmer. 23 inches closed , 39 extended. No more bending over,  except for fish.

JUNK !!!

This skimmer lasted about 5 minutes. The locking mechanism failed in the cold. CTC took it back no problems.

Considering that ice chips float up to the surface and that I've never had to position a ladle more than just a few inches below the surface to completely clear a freshly augered fishin' hole, has anyone considered that someone, somewhere (CHINA??) is having a good laugh at impressionable Canadian ice anglers?? Yeah, I know we're all tackle and gadget junkies and I'm as guilty as anyone of excess when it comes to purchasing less than useful items, most of which occupy dwindling basement storage space.

You got it wrong Grandpa, the idea of  the long handle is so you don't have to bend over and it makes it  easy to reach the holes when seated. It has nothing to do with  reaching way down an ice hole

Ok that's it . I'm bringing the fish elevator out in the a.m . Not only does it scoop shavings without bending over you shut off the hole from the hole once he's in it . Seriously google it and it does work . I keep 3 around for you old boogers that can't bend over cause of your hops bellies . LOL

Ham,
Thanks for the clarification on the scoop. I should have realized how it was to be used. I'm definitely at the point where my remaining intact vertebrae would benefit from such a device.

although i do not own one these scoops are great from what ive seen, ive got friends that have them and ive never heard a bad word bout them till now.
wonder if ya just got a lemon, and was the button out all the way(my buds have a button that pops out when extending it)but ive also seen some that just turn the handle to tighten or loosen.
i think the button would be better..

The one I got had was the twist to lock type. I can see how the push button would be better. If anyone knows where they are available please let me know. For the little time it was functional it worked well.
