mounting a bowmount trolling motor
« on: June 16, 2011, 11:40:05 AM »
OK guys.....need some ideas here..i have a 14 legend boat but it has next to nothing on the bow to mount a trolling motor on .....i bought a really nice 40 lb thrust transom mount min- kota, and it works great except on those windy days when you want to be able go into the wind ....i`d like to make some kind of platform in the front to be able to buy and mount a trolling motor on .....could have a plate welded on but not sure of that cost .....not working to much right now so the cheaper ideas the better .....and ideas welcomed thanks guys ...

Not sure what you have in mind - center or off center??

Remove the screw (do not lose this screw) under the motor head - turn the motor around 90 deg. - replace screw.

You may have enough room on your bow plate to drill and bolt (stainless) the plate to it.

Just finished pulling my 40 off my bow, and installing a Maxum 101, had to buy a mounting plate, and had to add 2 more deep cycle in series to give me 36 volts to run it. I'll post some pics later. You may have to mount a plate across the bow, and bolt it to the gunnel, the mount your motor to it.

thanks guys .....some good ideas ....i was hoping to actually mount a piece of some kind of  decking so if i buy a bow mount i`ll have a place to mount it .....bobbyb that angle iron idea might be my answer for right now .....my motor is only a 36 inch shaft so i`ll have to see if it will reach the water on the front ......dokdok liked that video ,more for anchoring though .....kinda like a poor mans power pole ......great idea thanks for posting ....i love tinkering as well and enjoy that type of video too.....i`ve watched many how to videos on You Tube about camping also ...
