Alabama/Umbrella Rig-should it be allowed?
« on: January 10, 2012, 09:33:55 PM »
Hey guys, i was just wondering on your input about this new hot bait. I dont exactly know if it shoulod be allowed because it has 5 hooks and you should only  fish one hook at a time. What do you think

~~~Actually your allowed 4 single hooks on your line, or 4 lures with trebble hooks, but your asking for a disaster of a mess, if you hook into a phish
Actually it's 4 hooks per line.
Either single, double, treble or any combination of them.
Live bait or lures plays no part anymore.
This is the rig
That's clearly counted as five (5) hooks per line, so I'd think we would have to remove one hook..
My loooooooooong stick:-):
Rovic Rods will be offering A Rig rods. Call and we can work out the type of rod you will reqiuire depending on the  weight you are planning on using. These Rods  are all in the 8 foot range and up to 6 oz but will be ussing heavy duty Micro guides to try and cut down on wind knots and wieght.
A proper rod will allow the lure to load the rod and this will ease the casting. Better eat your Wheaties before going out with one of these rigs.
They now make one with hookup for 4 hooks instead of 5.
It's a decent bait but way over-rated in my books.  Impossible to fish in slop, and that's where the hog LM like to hang out in most conditions...  the guy that made this is going to make a killing though.
  these Rigs have been around for a Very long time,
   They are used  Heavily on the atlantic coast fishing for Striped Bass.
  I own one, But have not caught anything with it,   trying to troll.
  You can  add or remove hooks as needed,  While trolling i would only use one hook from the centre with all the others as attractors.
   as for casting???   I'm sure there is  a better way to get the fish to your boat.
 I have heard these rigs are great for Lake Trout, and possibly white fish trolling.
   still yet to get mine fired while out for Chinook.....
